North Sea, off the coast of Scotland, UK

Scope

Installation of 72 inter array cables

  • Route engineering & clearance (survey, UXO and boulder ID & clearance)
  • Cable loading & transport
  • Cable installation & trenching (cutting & jetting)
  • Termination & Testing of installed cables
  • Providing supporting vessels like CTV’s and SOV’s (Walk-to-Work)
  • As-built documentation

Execution

N-Sea’s smart solution

During the tender process, it became apparent that insufficient site data was available to design the cable routes. N-Sea therefore agreed, at short notice, to execute an additional scope to survey both export and inter-array cable routes, as well as foundation and substation locations.

Based on the survey results, a UXO ID & clearance campaign, along with a boulder clearance campaign, was initiated. During execution, the number of UXOs and boulders to be cleared was optimised by introducing flexibility in the cable route design and minimising the clearance corridor required for cable laying and burial.
